Issey Miyake

Issey Miyake was born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1938. He went to Tokyo to study graphic design and went to work in Paris and New York City after graduating in 1964. In 1970, he returned to Tokyo to open his women’s fashion studio “Miyake Design”
In the late 1980’s, he began to play with different cuts, folds and techniques in his designs. He also became close friends, with Steve Jobs, and designed the black turtlenecks, which became part of Steve’s daily attire.
In 1992, the fashion house partnered with Jaxques Cavallier and together launched L’Eau d’Issey for women. The fragrance became a huge success, especially in the US, thanks to its fresh floral aquatic fragrance. Two years later they launched L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme, which had an equally fresh marine masculine scent. Through out the years the have created many more fragrances, inluding Le Feu d’Issey and Le Feu d’Issey Light (both for women) as well as many other variations of the original, but none have had as much success as the first.
