Jean Paul Gaultier
France
Jean Paul Gaultier was born in 1952 in Arcueil, France.   From a very young age he was fascinated by fashion inspired by his grandmothers closet, especially by her corsets.  At the early age of 13, he was designing outfits for both his mother and grandmother.  Around the age of 18, he sent off some of his sketeches to several designers in Paris, and by 1970 he was hired by Pierre Cardin and a year later he went to work for Jean Patou.

In 1976, Gaultier established his own private label.  Gaultier quickly became a big name in the fashion world, with his  outlandish, punk and exotic designs.

By 1990, Gaultier became extremely popular with the rich and famous, especially having collaborated for Modonna’s Blonde Tour , where he designed the infamous cone-like bras.

In 1992, Gaultier launched his first women’s fragrance, simply named Jean Paul Gaultier EDP (eventually the name was changed to Classique), known for its exotic packaging.  In 1995 Le Male for men followed and Fragile for women was launched in 1999.
