Versace

Gianni Versace was born Reggio Calabria, Italy, on December 2, 1946. After helping his mother with her dressmaking business, at the age of 25 Versace was creating his own designs for high end fashion houses. Once he opened his own boutique in Milan in 1978, Gianni designed the Medusa image which was to become the logo the company is known for.
Versace was an instant hit with the rich and famous like Elton John, Madonna and Brittney Spears. He grew the line to include home collections, accessories and cosmetics. He created many different lines including Atelier versace, Couture, Home Collection and Versus.
The first Versace fragrance for women was created in 1981 and opened up new doors for the fashion house in the fragrance market. They went on to launch many perfumes that are still popular today like Versus Donna, Versus Red Jeans, Versace Crystal for women, and Versace L’homme, Versus Blue jeans, The Dreamer, and Eau Fraiche for men.
In 1997 Gianni was murdered at the steps of his Miami mansion and his sister Donatella took over as creative director, who is rumored to be Gianni’s inspiration for the fragrance Blonde.
