Yves Saint Laurent

In 1960, he went back to Algeria to fight for its country’s independence but when he came back to Paris, he was disappointed to find out that his job at Dior was no longer available. Saint Laurent became extremely distraught and sued for breach of contract and won. Consequently, the designer was able to open his own fashion house, with his partner Pierre Berge.
In 1964, the designer launched their first women’s fragrance, “Y” , followed by Rive Gauche in 1970, Opium in 1977, Paris in 1983 and Kouros fro emn in 1981. These fragnces have become some of the best sellers around the world and can still be found today. Since then, many more scents have been introduced, such as Baby Doll, Yvress (originally named Champagne), Elle and Cinema.
For the next 20 years, his designs were extremely sought after by the rich, the famous and the beautiful. Models rushed to be hired by him and walk on the runways wearing his creations.
